Sylviane Granger: Corpus and Transfer

While transfer is now universally recognized as a major factor in Second Language Acquisition, its operationalization is lagging behind. In my presentation I will describe the role that computer learner corpora can play in establishing transfer more efficiently and reliably. The presentation will be illustrated with numerous examples, extracted from the International Corpus of Learner English, a corpus of essays written by learners from many different mother tongue backgrounds.
