Friday Seminar: Carlee Arnett

Prof. Carlee Arnett from the University of California, Davis will give a talk on the physiology of the horse and its implications for our understanding of the Old High German magical charms, entitled “A physiological approach to the Merseburger Zaubersprüche”. The focus will be on the meaning of the root “renki” (cognate with English “wrench”, and usually taken to mean “sprain”) in light of actual equestrian injuries and their symptoms, as well as what could be meant by “bluotrenki” (?blood-sprain?).
